The journey of the humble pencil

As a nonprofit with a national mission to empower children through literacy and writing services, 826 National’s campaign “GR-826” needed a brand and a compelling annual appeal mailer that expressed what they do and what they stand for without looking stuffy.

Writing is a vehicle for expression, moving forward ideas and transforming how we see the world. Through illustrative details, branded elements, and an array of textures, the piece is compelling, fun, and uniquely “826” in its energy.

Drawing inspiration from vintage race car posters, the mark works a pencil into a wheel to convey writing as a vehicle in motion.

Whimsical cut paper scenes carry through the concept of how writing can transport you anywhere.
